Once we had found Monteiths restaurant this hidden gem we were delighted with it. Hidden down a small close with fairy lights on the walls and a wreath of brown twigs with a black M with two horses on either side it is easy to walk past as you wonder down Edinburgh Historic Royal Mile.
My daughter and wife both had cocktails which they became very possessive about which is always a good sign.
The award winning bar/restaurant head chef Scott Hunter’s contemporary Scottish cuisine and cocktails were just what we were looking for and strongly recommend you visit if you can.
Since the Restaurant opening in 2007 it has developed a regular clientele of which I hope I become one. Last time I was there I had delicious North Atlantic Hake with Tatare Hollandaise & sea asparagus and in fact everyone’s plates were spotless in a record time. I know I should not have had the chips but I could not resist after seeing them being delivered to some lucky person at the next door table. The desert menu is also very tempting.
Monteiths is open to the public for drinks and dinner from 5pm Monday-Friday and 12pm at the weekends. For more information and sample menus go to their website.
